With the growth of a non-profit come changes, some unexpected, and growing pains.  As Sofia Crisp shares in this post, leaders of emerging non-profits should ‘be careful what they ask for’.  If a growing non-profit organization’s resources are at risk of being overwhelmed, a leader will have capacity challenge on their hands.

In this Series, My Non-profit Journey: What I Wish I Knew When I Started, eight leadership wishes shared by Sofia Crisp with Your Outcomes Well are being explored.

cropped-cropped-istock_000003055228_large1.jpgIn life, there are no Do-Overs. However, in an early-June 2015 meeting which the Your Outcomes Well team had, Sofia Crisp was asked if there was anything she wishes she had known when she first launched the housing, non-profit organization (Housing Consultant Group) she has successfully led since 2004.  She paused, reflected on the question asked, and offered an insightful list of ‘I Wish I Knew’ things. These streams of thought were the seed and inspiration for a blog series, which begins today with this post.

In this Series, My Non-profit Journey: What I Wish I Knew When I Started, each of the eight leadership wishes shared by Crisp will be explored.  Her first wish, featured in this post: Working ‘in your Gift’.

Non-profit Leadership Starting a Non-profit

When I first started thinking about launching a non-profit, I didn’t think it would be easy. However, having already mastered being a Cardiac Nurse, Real Estate broker, and being a Single Parent (of 2 wonderful daughters) it seemed very doable. How hard could it be? I was confident. I thought to myself: I can handle this.

I will share with you in this post the journey of planning, starting, and leading the Housing Consultants Group (Greensboro NC).
